Answer to Question 1

False

Answer to Question 2

The first reason is that advertising increases customers' awareness of a product. After a company has segmented the market and selected the targeted customers, it needs to provide information to those customers about its brand.
Here is an example of why this is important: Let's say Walmart has a new brand of cell phones. Walmart has determined that its target segment is middle-class families. Walmart should advertise its new phone on television shows and in magazines that interest middle-class families. If it does not do this, its target segment will not be aware of the new phone.
The second reason is that advertising convinces customers that a company's brand is superior to competitors' offerings. Advertising does this by emphasizing a feature or benefit that makes the brand seem better than the competitors.
Using the Walmart example again: Assuming that people are aware of the new phone, Walmart still needs to convince them that the phone is better than the alternatives, or it will not succeed in getting people to purchase the phone.
