A firm handshake is perceived as arrogant and aggressive in Asia. Instead a soft handshake should be used. Eye contact should also be avoided in Asia (and Japan)). Avoidance of eye contact conveys an attitude of respect. German men do not kiss each other on the cheeks typically. In Eastern Europe, a woman does expect to have her hand kissed. This conveys respect for her as a representative of her gender. This may be found in Language section (5-2a).
