Herbert Blumer describes four types of crowds. A casual crowd shares some point of interest, albeit minor and short lasting. A conventional crowd has a specific purpose and follows accepted guidelines for behavior. Expressive crowds have no long-term purpose other than unleashing emotion. An acting crowd is one that does something toward some target or objective.
