Answer to Question 2

In the first stage of the demographic transition both birth rates and death rates are high so population is stable. In the second stage, birth rates remain high, but death rates decline, creating rapid population growth. In the third stage, the birth rate drops, but the death continues to decline and population continues to grow. In the final stage, both the birth rate and the death rate are low and population grows slowly, if at all.
