Infectious diseases are those that develop from bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other contagious agents,whereas chronic diseases are persistent health conditions such as heart and respiratory problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and Parkinson's or Alzheimer's diseases.A population that has higher rates of chronic than infectious disease indicates that the country has undergone an epidemiological transitionthis has important implications for how policies, programs, and resources may be allocated.
