Answer to Question 1

Socialization refers to how members of society are taught its norms and practices. There are numerous agents of socialization, such as parents, school, peers, and mass media. Boys and girls each receive messages from these agents of socialization that encourage or discourage certain types of behavior. For example, a boy may be discouraged from playing with dolls. He may receive these messages from his parents and from school peers. Girls, on the other hand, may be encouraged to play with dolls and engage in nurturing behavior.
