Answer to Question 1

This argument is based upon an analysis of the psychological needs of early adolescence and the kinds of changes that take place in the transition from the elementary grades to middle school. The typical middle school should:
a.seriously consider students' suggestions about classroom rules, seating arrangements, homework assignments, and time spent doing various task.
b. eliminate ability grouping, norm-based grading practices, and public evaluations of work as a way to decrease unhealthy competition and social comparisons.
c. increase opportunities for small-group and individualized instruction.
d. create a friendly, supportive, and caring classroom environment.

Answer to Question 2

General transfer occurs when a learner realizes that the cognitive processes used to satisfy the demands of one task can be used to satisfy the demands of another task, even thought the second task is rather different from the first task. An example would be using the same strategy (including tactics) for understanding a chapter in a chemistry book and a history book.
