Answer to Question 1

Women continue to face several problems at work. Those who want families may be seen as not being committed to their careers. Firms in the United States are not required by law to provide maternity leave. Women continue to have primary responsibility for child rearing and most household duties. With only a small percentage of firms offering day care , job sharing, and reduced hours, many women in their 20s and 30s withdraw from the workforce or curtail their work-related activities at crucial times in their careers. The glass ceiling also makes it hard for women to move beyond a certain level in the corporate hierarchy. Women face sexual harassment at work more than men. And finally, men and women have different communication styles that increase the odds of miscommunication and conflict.

Answer to Question 2

While leaders exercise influence in a more informal and unstructured manner, managers occupy formal decision-making positions in the organization.
