Conscientiousness is a dimension that ranges from careful, thorough, responsible, organized, etc., to irresponsible, disorganized, etc. Extroversion is the dimension that ranges from sociable, talkative, assertive, active, to retiring, sober, reserved, and cautious. Agreeableness is a dimension that ranges from good-natured, gentle, cooperative, forgiving, and hopeful, to irritable, ruthless, suspicious, etc. Neuroticism is a dimension that ranges from anxious, depressed, angry, emotionally insecure, etc., to calm, enthusiastic, poised, and secure. Openness to experience is a dimension that ranges from imaginative, sensitive, intellectual, and polished, to down-to-earth, insensitive, narrow, crude, and simple. Many researchers believe these five dimensions are foundational to personality, and there does seem to be a correlation between them and job success.
