Answer to Question 1

Answer: Firms with an ethnocentric value system believe that the knowledge and methods used in the home country are superior to those elsewhere. Consequently, these firms will prefer to staff managerial positions in foreign subsidiaries with home-country nationals. Firms with a polycentric view believe that only host-country nationals can really understand the local culture and customs. These firms will choose locals for managerial positions in international locations. Finally, firms with a geocentric view believe that the best managers could be anywhere. They will likely use a mix of locals, home-country nationals, and third-country nationals.
