Supervisory jobs come with authority. They also come with obligations or responsibility. The responsibility of a supervisor would include achieving their unit's goals, keeping costs within the budget, following organizational policies, and motivating their employees. Authority is the right to command or make a decision and should be commensurate with responsibility for a supervisor. Authority vested in a position is the right to hire, reward, discipline, and fire.
