Answer to Question 1

Biometric authentication uses personal physical characteristics such as fingerprints, facial features, and retinal scans to authenticate users. It provides a strong authentication, but the required equipment is expensive. Users often resist biometric identification because they feel it is invasive. Biometric authentication is in the early stages of adoption. Due to its strength, it likely will see increased usage in the future. It is also likely that legislators will pass laws governing the use, storage, and protection requirements for biometric data.

Answer to Question 2

TRUE

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt.
