Answer to Question 1

C
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted to safeguard medical
information. Some previous methods for patient care organization fall under what is now considered to
be HIPAA violations because they provide a means for others to access private information about
patients' care. Examples of HIPAA violation include the use of whiteboards to organize shift
assignments and nursing organizational charts (used to organize patient treatments, diagnoses, etc.). If
used, they must be destroyed when they are no longer needed.

Answer to Question 2

C
A variable is a characteristic or attribute of a person that varies within the population under study such
as body temperature. In a randomized controlled trial, an experimental group receives a study
intervention and the control group may receive a placebo. A control group consists of subjects in an
experiment who do not receive the experimental treatment and whose performance provides a baseline
against which the effects of the treatment can be measured.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
