Answer to Question 1

C
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is accountable for establishing systems to assess, monitor, verify, and communicate ongoing competence requirements in all areas related to nursing delegation. Even though the Nurse Manager, Director, or Supervisor may contribute to the evaluation and competency of staff nurses and nursing personnel, the Chief Nursing Officer is accountable for ensuring that an effective system is in place regarding nursing delegation for nurses and all delegates (ANA and NCSBN, Joint Statement on Delegation, 2006).

Answer to Question 2

D
Research by Kirkpatrick and Locke concluded that leaders possess six traits: drive, desire to lead,
honesty, self-confidence, cognitive ability, and knowledge of the business. Woods identified five
dominant factors that influenced leadership development: self-confidence, innate qualities, progression
of experience, influence of significant others, and personal life factors. Stogdill identified the
following traits of a leader: intelligence, self-confidence, determination, integrity, and sociability.
Murphy and DeBack identified the following leader characteristics: caring, respectability,
trustworthiness, and flexibility.
