Answer to Question 1

A
Nurses often consider fatigue as a normal part of the job, and often do not associate between working excessive hours and impaired health. Working without adequate sleep between shifts can lead to negative chronic health effects, including cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, decreased immune function, and an increased risk of cancer. In respect to job performance and safety to patients, sleep deprivation has been documented as increasing the risk of medical errors (Institute of Medicine IOM, 2006).

Answer to Question 2

D
Spiritual health can be viewed as the essence of being, that which gives meaning and direction to life (Pedrao & Beresin 2010). Nurses need to find ways to nurture themselves. Nurturing relationships with family, friends, and children are vital to self-care. Engaging in self-reflection and sharing our stories can legitimize our challenges and help us gather strength to persevere or change. Reducing stress is a way of being emotionally healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a way of maintaining good physical health. Providing holistic care provides for all the patients physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
