Answer to Question 1

C
To help improve communication among nurses of various cultures, nurse managers can plan informal meetings for the nurses to discuss their cultural values. They can also plan cultural workshops and ask knowledgeable individuals to present information about the values, behaviors, and communication patterns of different cultural groups that are represented on staff. Foreign nurses need an orientation designed to help newcomers adjust to the new work environment. Attempting to teach nurses from another culture American ways or slang language and not allowing other foreign-language-speaking nurses speak their language will not improve communication. These actions will impede the process.

Answer to Question 2

D
There are four distinct generations that make up our workforce today. They are: 1) the Traditionals (born before 1940), 2) the baby boomers (born between 1940 and 1960), 3) Generation X (born between 1960 and 1980), and 4) Generation Y (born after 1980). The Traditionals tend to feel obligated to conform and believe that work is one's duty. Workaholic, strong-willed, and working for material gain, promotions, job security, and corner offices are characteristics of the baby boomer generation. Seeking a balance between work and leisure are characteristics of Generation X, and expecting countless options and focusing on early retirement are characteristics of Generation Y.
