Answer to Question 1

A
Group decision making may be required in certain types of health care settings when a number of different groups or members have a stake in a perceived result. Group decision making is known to have certain pros (positive) and cons (disadvantages). Some of the disadvantages are: 1) can take time, 2) can be costly, 3) can lead to conflict, 4) can become a power struggle, and 5) groups can become dominated by one person. While it may seem as if it can bring in too many opinions when all the group members share their opinions and perceptions, that can be one of the benefits or pros of group decision making in the long term.

Answer to Question 2

A
A number of different obstacles can intervene in effective decision-making, causing errors in judgment or inaccurate choices. DeLaune and Ladner (2011) defined five criteria that can negatively impact decision-making or problem-solving processes. These five criteria are: 1) choosing decisions that are too broad, too complicated, or lack definition (not choosing decisions that are too narrow or too precise), 2) failing to obtain all the necessary information, 3) failing to intervene and evaluate the solution or decision appropriately, and 5) jumping to conclusions without examining the situation completely.
