Answer to Question 1

2
Explanation: 1. Because the department has doubled in volume of clients, it would be necessary to increase
staff to manage this volume. Increased wait times and overcrowding may lead to violent
behavior. Another ED physician and registration employee may or may not affect the wait
times, but an increase in nursing staff would definitely be a necessary action to take.

Answer to Question 2

2
Explanation: 1. Organizations should implement policies and procedures to manage workplace violence as it
has increased over the years in health care. In addition to harm to employees, violence in the
workplace can affect worker morale, increase staff stress, cause a mistrust of administration,
and exacerbate a hostile work environment. It might be beneficial to discuss the organizations
policies and procedures with local law enforcement but the first step should be to review and
revise those policies/procedures so they are reflective of effectively managing the types of
incidents seen in the department.
