The AACN governs the educational schools of nursing. The ANA is an organizational body that represents American nurses and their interest. The WHO is a global body address world health needs.

The AACN has taken the position that educational preparation for advanced nursing practice roles should be moved to the doctoral level (DNP) by the year 2015, but that move has not currently been implemented.
