Answer to Question 1

Thinning is a process of moving from a dense schedule of reinforcement (CRF) to a sparse schedule of
reinforcement. Students should provide an example of thinning. A teacher should use a dense schedule of
reinforcement when teaching a new skill and working towards skill acquisition. A sparse schedule of
reinforcement should be used once a skill has been acquired and the teacher is working on maintenance.
