Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
All of the answers could be reasons for concern, although young teenagers are too young to drive. Parents are not necessarily dysfunctional on the basis of just the information given. Although obesity is an issue, a more immediate concern would be the fact that use of legal substances (e.g., tobacco, alcohol) almost always precedes use of illegal drugs.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Adolescents being physically or sexually abused may have symptoms that include changes in behavior; difficulty in walking, sitting, or other movements; and refusing to change into gym attire or participate in physical activities. It would not be appropriate to minimize the situation, call the student out in front of the class, or have a conversation about the importance of physical education. Rather, the nurse should address the potential signs and symptoms that have been displayed by this student.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
