Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
In 2009, 93 of Medicare enrollees aged 65 years and over resided in traditional community settings. Three percent resided in community housing with at least one service available, and approximately 4 resided in long-term-care facilities. The other responses do not support a therapeutic response by the nurse in this situation.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Cancer rates appear to be increasing for a number of reasons, including lifestyle choices (smoking, diet, sun exposure); increasing exposure to environmental carcinogens; and age. There has not been a significant decrease of cardiac disease or other causes of death. Screening programs exist to detect cancers early and more cancers are detected at earlier stages.
