An ideal response will:
1. Explain the importance of studying demographics, including the fact that demographic features such as age, income, occupation, geographic location, and social class, among others, influence how people participate in and understand politics.
2. Discuss how politicians use demographic information to help target their messages to specific groups of people to increase their odds of electoral success.

Answer to Question 2

An ideal response will:
1. Define race as a grouping of human beings with distinctive characteristics determined by genetic inheritance.
2. Define ethnicity as a social division based on national origin, religion, language, and often race.
3. Explain how specific groups in the student's community fit into those definitions.
