Ways to reduce the negative effects of a complex measurement system include: decrease the number of simultaneously observed individuals or behaviors, decrease the duration of observation sessions, increase the duration of time intervals. Consider requiring additional practice during observer training, establish a high criterion for mastery of the observational code, and provide frequent feedback to observers.
