Suggestions for professional support will vary but should include providing social, emotional and financial supports focused on family strengths.

ANSWER: The Apgar scale is used at one minute and five minutes after birth to assess the neonates readiness to be outside the womb. Vital signs such as heart rate, skin color, muscle tone, reflexes, and breathing are each rated on a scale of 0 to 2. A score of 4 or less indicates the baby needs immediate help.
