Answer to Question 1

ANSWER:
In the early 1900s, when matrilineal societies were first discovered, most researchers argued that the mothers brother was the authority figure in matrilineal societies. While this is true in some cases, there is a wide variety of authority in matrilineal systems. They remain a paradox today, as they do not seem to follow rules as strictly as in patrilineal systems.

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER:
Unilineal kinship involves two types: matrilineal, in which offspring inherit and trace their descent through their mothers line, and patrilineal, in which they inherit and trace their descent through their fathers line.
