Both attempt to explain the inequities in our world. Functionalist theory argues that
social inequity exists because it is necessary as a way of maintaining the social
structure with the best possible people. Conflict theory says that inequity exists
because the upper classes dominate the lower ones.

long-term subjugation, and genocide.
