Answer to Question 1

Answer: Many students arrive at school without knowing what a real conversationdeep reflective talkis like. Teachers have an obligation to model, scaffold, and use direct instruction within the classroom to engage students in deep reflective conversations about books. Students need the opportunity to practice the use of cognitive strategies in order to internalize them and strengthen comprehension.
