1. Shan tattooing includes elements of local spiritual beliefs of highland peoples in Southeast Asia, combined with features of Hinduism and Buddhism.

3. An example from Buddhism is the Five Buddha tattoo, which women are not allowed to bear.
4. An example from Hinduism is the depiction of the goddess Saraswati on the right shoulder.
