Answer: The ideal answer will include:
1. Kinship from descent is based on parentage. It is subdivided into bilineal and unilineal systems.
2. Kinship through sharing is based on acts of sharing and support. It may or may not be formally or ritually recognized. An example is adoption.
3. Kinship through marriage is defined as a union between two people.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The ideal answer will include:
1. The incest taboo is a prohibition on marriage or sexual relations with close family members.
2. It always includes a prohibition against parentchild unions and almost always unions between siblings.
3. Some variation exists in how it is applied to cousins.
4. Some cultures, such as Hindus in southern India, allow or encourage unions between parallel or cross-cousins (defined by the gender of the parent's sibling that is the parent of the prospective cousin).
