Somatic pain is pain in the bone and soft tissue. Visceral pain is generalized, referred, and described as deep and aching. Nociceptive pain arises from mechanical, thermal, or chemical noxious stimuli. Neuropathic pain occurs from abnormal processing of sensory stimuli by the central or peripheral nervous system.
