Answer to Question 2

D
A special pain relief system, transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS), is a pocket-sized, battery-operated device that provides a continuous mild electrical current to the skin via electrodes that are attached to a stimulator by flexible wires. Using a TENS unit if the patient has a cardiac pacemaker device may interfere with pacemaker function. As with other forms of cutaneous stimulation, it is thought that TENS works by stimulating large nerve fibers to close the gate in the spinal cord. In addition, TENS may stimulate endorphin production.
