An ad-juvant is a medication that has been developed for a different purpose but serves to alter the per-ception of pain, possibly in combination with a pain medication. Lidocaine patches are a phar-macological treatment for pain relief. Capsaicin is a pharmacological means of providing comfort and alleviating pain and distress.
