Answer to Question 1

D
As people age, changes in the cardiovascular system may lead to decreased blood flow to specific target tissue and decreased drug distribution (response C). A lower blood volume, resulting from dehydration (response A), also decreases drug distribution. Decreased plasma protein levels found in many older adults may lead to less of the drug being bound to protein and more drug free to exert its actions (sometimes causing what would be considered a normal dose to be an overdose of a specific drug such as warfarin).

Answer to Question 2

B
It is never too early to begin the education process. Hospital stays are very short, and the amount of information to be covered can be overwhelming for one session (response C). It will be necessary to set up appointments for them (response A), but you can begin the process (response B).
