Answer to Question 1

D
In older adults with impaired skin integrity related to pressure ulcers, assessment of the albumin level helps determine whether the protein balance is correct for proper wound healing to occur. Older adults with low albumin levels need nutritional support to promote healing of wounds. The other lab values are not related.

Answer to Question 2

D
With age, particularly for malnourished or frail adults, plasma albumin levels may drop and therefore should be monitored. As a result of decreased sites for protein binding, the activity of highly protein bound drugs, and any side effects caused by these drugs may be increased. The other options may be appropriate for specific drugs, but not in general.
