Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
One of the most important components of the culture change movement is the creation of models of care that value and honor the important work of nursing assistants. Until our society makes a real commitment to providing adequate wages, individual supports (e.g., health insurance, education, career ladders), and an appreciation of their significant contribution to quality of nursing home care, these neglected workers cannot be expected to have the energy or incentive to extend themselves to the elders in their care. The remaining statements, while true, lack the focus on the value of the work CNAs perform.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
The role of the nurse is to assess all aspects of the resident's health and wellness. As a facili-tator of a milieu there is an expectation that the assessment would be completed and the nurse manager has a responsibility to both the nurse and the client to discuss why the nurse failed to do so. Returning the form with a discussion first will have little impact on resolving the issue in the future. While it is best to perform the assessment when the resident is com-fortable there is no reason to postpone the assessment. Asking another nurse to complete the assessment will not allow for the situation to be discussed and resolved.
