Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
An increase in the serum amylase can be detected as early as 2 hours after the onset of pancreatic disease. In simple acute pancreatitis, the level returns to normal in about 36 hours. In chronic disease it remains elevated.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
The patient with a peptic ulcer should eat frequently to keep food in the stomach. Eating 6 small meals daily is helpful. Restriction of fluid is not necessary and irritating foods, alcohol, and caffeine should be discouraged.
