Described by family members as a funeral that never ends..
Patients are often institutionalized within 18 months of family care (strain).
Patients live only half as long as others of similar age.
Starts as subtle personality and cognitive changes.
It becomes harder to manage daily tasks.
Memory slips away; they get lost in parking lots, etc.
Eventually become helpless.
Diagnosis confirmed by autopsy.
Increase in numbers with graying of America.

Answer to Question 2

Changes in the female:
- Vaginal lubrication declines.
- Vaginal walls lose some elasticity.
- Intensity of muscle spasms during orgasm declines.

Changes in the male:
- Takes longer to achieve erection and orgasm.
- More direct stimulation needed to achieve erection and orgasm.
- Ejaculate contains less semen.
- Erections may become less firm.
- Orgasmic contractions become less intense.
- Refractory period (time between orgasms) increases.
