Answer to Question 1

Myths:
- Popping a vitamin pill can correct a poor diet.
- The more vitamins you take, the better off you'll be.
- Taking vitamin supplements will boost your athletic performance.
- Taking stress vitamins helps you cope with emotional problems.
- Natural vitamins are better than synthetic vitamins.

Facts:
- Vitamin pills will not compensate for a poor diet. A multivitamin pill can ensure that you receive essential vitamins, but will not provide the other nutrients you need for your health.
- Excess doses of vitamins can be harmful (i.e., can cause liver damage).
- Vitamins will not improve your game or enhance your performance in sports.
- So-called stress vitamins help the body counter effects of physical stress, such as changes in temperature. There is no evidence that vitamins help people cope with emotional stress.
- There is no evidence that your body can tell the difference between natural and synthetic vitamins.
