Answer to Question 1

The glycemic index is a measure of foods and how quickly they convert into blood sugar. Foods that enter the bloodstream quickly have a higher glycemic index. High glycemic index foods (such as simple sugars) lead blood sugar levels to increase rapidly. The body responds by secreting insulin which reduces blood sugar levels. Foods with a low glycemic index do not lead to extreme spikes in blood sugar levels and therefore contribute to a more stable mood and energy level.
