Answer to Question 1

Smell can play an important role in managing stress since research indicates that scents people find the most relaxing are often ones that evoke childhood memories. Smell is analyzed in the limbic part of the brain, an area associated with emotions. Not surprisingly, aroma can affect how people feel. For this reason, aromatherapy can be useful for lowering stress levels. By inhaling scents such as pine or lavender, people can reduce symptoms associated with stress, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, insomnia and fatigue.
