Answer to Question 1

Scientists use the term homeostasis to define the physiological and emotional limits at which the body functions efficiently and comfortably in a state of balance. Stress disturbs homeostasis by creating a state of imbalance. When something happens in our surroundingssomethi ng equivalent to a big bear charging out of the forestthis perception of danger automatically initiates the fight-or-flight response. Once we sense no more danger, the functions in the body that activate the stress response are turned off and we gradually return to normal (homeostasis).

Answer to Question 2

The fight-or-flight response is designed to help us do one thing: survive physical danger. This primitive response gives us strength, power, and speed to avoid physical harm, in order to protect both ourselves and others when we perceive danger.

Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
