Answer to Question 1

Thought awareness is the process of observing your thoughts and becoming aware of what is going through your head, particularly during stressful situations. As you begin monitoring your mental processes, you will become more conscious of the words and phrases you use to talk to yourself when stressed. You will step back and see, perhaps for the first time, the ways in which faulty thinking patterns and fruitless worries add stress to your life. If your negative thoughts have some basis in reality, take appropriate action. If there is no rational basis for your distorted thoughts, let them move through your consciousness and out of your mind.

Answer to Question 2

People with internal locus of control believe that they, themselves, are responsible for what happens in life, while people with external locus of control attribute outcomes to luck or fate. Internals act more independently, enjoy better health, and are more optimistic about their future. Externals find it harder to cope with stress and feel increasingly helpless over time. An internal locus of control also is related to higher self-esteem-and self-esteem has to do not just with feeling good about yourself but also with achieving results. You cannot and do not achieve results if you do not act and if you are not able to manage stress. On the other hand, you will not exert effort unless you have a reasonable expectation of being able to succeed. An internal locus of control sets up a positive spiral that builds on itself; an external one freezes you in place.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
