Fertility awareness methods rely on abstaining from sexual intercourse (or any penis-vagina contact) during a woman's fertile periods. The cervical mucus method involves a woman examining the consistency of vaginal secretions to track ovulation. The body temperature method requires daily monitoring of basal body temperature to track ovulation. The calendar method involves keeping an exact record of the menstrual cycle to attempt to predict the fertile period.
