1. Explain how sensory coding and processing allow the central nervous system to communicate information on the four properties of a stimulus.( four properties being modality (nature), location , Intensity, and Duration of the Stimulus.)

2. Describe how pitch and loudness are processed by the cochlea.

I really tried to find some good answers for them but I couldn't make my answers as specific as needed. I would really appreciate any help I can get. Only these 2 questions left from 20 questions assignment due to tomorrow night.

1.

-The four properties of a stimulus are modality, location, intensity, and duration.
-Modality is indicated by which neurons are activated and where their associated sensory pathways terminate.
-Location of the stimulus is received by receptive fields explained above.
-Intensity is a result of the number of receptors activated and the frequency of action potentials along the sensory pathway.
-Duration depends upon adaptive properties of the receptor. Tonic provide continuous information on a particular parameter, whereas phasic provide information that a parameter has changed.
