Answer to Question 1

Answer: Talk with your doctor firstespecially if you are currently taking any medications, are pregnant, are trying to become pregnant, or have any chronic medical conditions. Some supplements can be inappropriate or even harmful for certain populations. Factors such as your diet, age, sex, and health status can all affect whether or not a dietary supplement is appropriate for you. Look for the USP verification and choose brands made by nationally known manufacturers, which may have higher processing and production standards.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Conventional care is based on the principles of the scientific method; the belief that diseases are caused by identifiable physical factors and have a characteristic set of symptoms; and the treatment of physical causes through drugs, surgery, or other physical interventions. CAM refers to those practices and traditions not typically part of conventional Western medicine, including everything from herbal remedies and meditation to chiropractors and traditional Chinese medicine.
