Answer: In this response, white blood cells called lymphocytes not only destroy a specific pathogen, but also produce numerous clones of memory cells that, on any subsequent encounter with that pathogen, will recognize and attack it almost instantly. The two types of lymphocytes involved in specific immunity are the B cells and the T cells.
