Answer to Question 2

Answer: Tumors are described by grades and stages. In grading, a scale is used to describe the cells that make up the cells in the tumor. Grades 1 to 4 are used, with 1 being the least harmful. Staging describes the extent or severity according to the size and behavior of the tumor. The TNM system is used to describe the tumor (T), its behavior with regards to traveling in to the lymph nodes (N), and whether or not the tumor is metastasizing (M). Each is scored 1 to 4, with 1 being the least harmful. The cancerous tumor is grouped in to five categories according to the type of tissue in which the cancer grows. They are carcinomas, sarcomas, central nervous system cancers, leukemias, and lymphomas.
