Answer to Question 1

Answer: Moderate drinking is based on the consumption of up to one or two drinks per day. Social drinking is based on the patterns that are accepted by peers. Moderate drinking is typically a lower level of consumption, and social drinking typically involves high-risk drinking.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Medications can make it easier to quit drinking by offsetting some of the changes in the brain characteristic of alcohol dependence and reducing the craving for alcohol. They are not addictive and can be combined with support groups or alcohol counseling, and/or used with antidepressants.
