Jeff has diabetes. He wants to exercise but he also wants to make sure he does so safely. What are some things Jeff can do to reduce his risk and ensure an effective workout?

 Find ways of overcoming obstacles such as lack of time by breaking up exercise into segments or getting your family involved.

 He can monitor his blood glucose before and after exercise, especially when beginning or modifying his exercise program.
 He can wear a diabetes ID bracelet during exercise.
 He can carry a snack with him if he will be active for a few hours.
 If Jeff begins to feel shaky, anxious, or suddenly begins to sweat more, he should halt exercise and consume a fast-acting carbohydrate.
 He should be sure to wear well-fitting shoes and check his feet for blisters or sores before and after exercise.
